Psychosocial Rehabilitation Services

Our Psychosocial Rehab Services help Medicaid clients who have a history of severe and chronic psychiatric problems often resulting in multiple previous psychiatric hospitalizations, intensive outpatient treatment, failure and/or non-compliance with previous treatment. 

Psychosocial Rehab Services are available to eligible Medicaid clients to “assist in the recovery and resiliency of the recipient.” The purpose of PSR treatment is to “assist recipients in coping with the symptoms of their illness, minimize the disabling effects of mental illness on their capacity for independent living, and prevent or limit periods of inpatient treatment.” This program is administered by a joint partnership between Louisiana Department of Health and Healthy Louisiana, which oversee the companies that are contracted to manage all healthcare of Medicaid recipients in the State.

PSR services are available to Medicaid-covered children, adolescents and adults who meet the criteria for these services that has been established by the Louisiana Behavioral Health Partnership. Services take place in homes, schools, the community and Family Care offices. Services provided include:

  • Comprehensive assessment
  • Community Psychiatric Support and Treatment
  • Individual PSR and skill building treatment
  • Parent/family intervention
  • Group counseling
  • Psychosocial skills training group
  • Crisis intervention
  • Medication management
  • Case management
  • Discharge planning and referral
